Hydra Dragon Lamp
The hydra dragon lamp, a rather large lamp that has as its main purpose to allow its user to not only light up the whole lamp, but it also allows them to only light up one side of it at a time. But, what is the point of this? you may ask; Well, this has come up to me as an idea I had one night in my shared room, where I was trying to work on my assigned homework, only to realize that my nightlamp was not only lighting up my desk, but also the face of my sleeping roommate. Yet this was not an only one time occurrence, for it has happened many times before, which started to make me feel bad about the occurrence.
And that's when I came up with the idea of making a lamp that would not only match my love for dragons, but to fix this issue, allowing me to only light up my side of the room and keep my roommate's side dark and comfortable for sleeping.
And after a little bit of tinkering with 3D Blender and some 3D printers, I came up with this lamp.
It could be better, that's true, but it's a good start for an idea I had in the middle of the night; and not only that, but this was a prototype where I practiced my ability to code an IR remote and one where I continued my small hobby of 3D modeling, so in the end it was a useful little practice for my career and my personal activities.
Process
For this project, I first started by making the coding and its wiring, for it was the most important part of the project besides its physical form.
After that I moved on to the modeling part, where, with the use of 3d Blender, I made the following model:
And this is where the most time consuming part of the process came in, which is 3d printing. Now, I don't have any photos of the pieces without any paint, but once you see the finished project, you'll be able to see where the connections of the many parts I had to print appear.
And speaking of paint, this is where one of my favorite parts came in, which was painting the model.
And after at least 2 or 3 hours of painting, and putting all the wiring inside of the model, this was the finished product.
